The Marine Conservation Society

For over thirty years The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has been the voice for the sea for all the fascinating creatures that live beneath the waves, for our breath-taking coastal environment, for all those who make a sustainable living from the sea and for everyone who simply enjoys visiting the beach and our glorious coastline. The MCS have also set up an annual Great British Beach Clean to bring volunteers together who care about our coastlines. The main beach cleaning and litter surveying programme took place from 15-18 September 2017. By surveying the littler the MCS are able to see what types of materials are ending up on the beaches so that actions can be taken to help reduce this.

In order to promote the event and the work they do the MCS commissioned a range of windbreaks to use during the event. We were really pleased to assist with this as at South Westerly we have always been keen campaigners for plastic free coastlines and with our sister company GoJute we are keen to reduce the amount of single use plastic in our environment. Our windbreaks, unlike most plastic alternatives on the market, are made from 10oz cotton and the poles are made from sustainably sourced hardwood. We are very proud of our ethical foundations and products and were therefore delighted to work with such a great charity as The Marine Conservation Society. Using our UK printing service, we were able to print the windbreaks with the MCS logo and have them delivered within just 10 days. The windbreaks were certainly eye catching during the event and a great way to highlight the great work from MCS. We are now looking forward to hearing what the findings are from this year’s survey!
